JIAYING GAN
Ipoh born Jiaying Gan is currently studying her final year at the Central Conservatory of Music, Beijing China for her Bachelor’s Degree in Music, majoring in Conducting. Parents want the best for their child. And being both musicians, Jiaying’s parents made sure they devoted her childhood to learning the arts, starting with “the Piano.” Besides excelling in her studies, practicing the piano, finishing composition homework and singing solfèges… Jiaying’s “free time” were jam-packed with MORE extra-curricular: ballet, arts & crafts, choir, calligraphy, story-telling, swimming lessons and the occasional competitions. Jiaying obtained the ABRSM Diploma in Piano Performing, participated in various operas like “Puccini’s TOSCA” and “Mozart’s COSI FAN TUTTE”, won National song-writing composition, learned the cello, joined many choirs, participated in youth orchestras, and performed in many concerts.
Her first composition was written at the age of seven where she took part in the “YAMAHA Junior Special Advance Course” program designed for young composers. Along the way she has written many compositions ranging from choral works, instrumentals, and orchestras. In year 2005, Jiaying wrote her first book to the musical “Jungle Wonder” with pop-tunes re-arranged for the LittleNoise Choir and was performed to an audience of 800 people. The positive feedbacks from parents, friends and family inspired her to write “Midnight Puppet – the Musical,” which was produced over and over again from year 2006-2010 in Kuala Lumpur and Sabah Malaysia…Beijing, China… and was recently invited to perform at the 2010 Korea Daegu’s International Musical Festival. As part of her graduation project requirements, she decided to showcase her new work “Pixies” to share with everyone back at home her growth and journey throughout these years studying abroad. Furthermore, staging Pixies will aid Jiaying with her application to New York University‘s Tisch School of Arts Musical Theatre Writing Graduate Program (MFA).
